The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame, Central Pennsylvania Chapter, has selected former Penn State football player Keith Olsommer as guest speaker for its 21st annual scholar-athlete awards dinner.
Olsommer, a 1992 graduate of North Pocono High School in Moscow, was a four-year letter-winner at Penn State as a tight end. He played in four New Year's Day bowl games, including the 1994 Rose Bowl. In 1996, Olsommer was named second team All-Big Ten and finished his Nittany Lion career with 42 receptions and four touchdowns.
Olsommer recently completed his 20th season as head coach of Delaware Valley High School, where he has transformed the school's football fortunes. In 1999 he inherited one of the worst programs in the commonwealth, and today the Warriors are regarded as a regional power. Over the last four seasons, Delaware Valley has a 38-10 record, including four consecutive Lackawanna 1 Conference Crowns. Olsommer's 2017 squad went 12-1 to earn its third consecutive District 2/4 6A championship. His career record now stands at 134-81.
"We are pleased to welcome Keith Olsommer as our 2018 scholar-athlete banquet feature speaker. Keith truly has exhibited a passion for both amateur football and academics as his life calling," said Chapter President Ron Pavlechko. "From playing at North Pocono High School, through Penn State University into teaching and coaching at Delaware Valley High School, Keith has achieved excellence at all levels."
